Steve Jobs is taking another sabbatical from his job to focus on his health

the second time in two years that the iconic Apple Inc. CEO will go on medical leave.

Jobs announced his leave of absence through a brief note addressed to employees of the technology giant, which has established itself as the leader in several product categories under the watch of the 55-year-old computer whiz. No further details were given about Jobs’ health concerns. Jobs is known to have survived pancreatic cancer and undergone liver transplant the past several years, but Apple disclosed those medical scares only after the company co-founder recovered from them.

Jobs said he would delegate the supervision of the company’s day-to-day operations to COO Tim Cook but will continue to function as CEO during the duration of his leave of absence. “I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can,” Jobs said in the note.

It would be the third time that Cook will temporarily take over operations of Apple since Jobs returned to the company in 1997. Cook, considered a potential CEO material, also took over Apple in 2004 and 2009 while Jobs was facing health problems.
