Cameron Diaz Swears Up a Storm in ‘Bad Teacher’

Some actors swear a lot as the cameras roll and, in most instances, those blue moments end up on the cutting-room floor. But not in the case of Columbia Pictures’ new comedy “Bad Teacher,” in which Cameron Diaz raises profanity to the level of high art in her title role.

“It was all phonetic,” Diaz said, laughing. “We started with an `F’ and we ended up with a `K,’ and, apparently, if you put these other two letters in between, it makes a very funny noise … and people understand it.”
As Diaz explains, actors typically drop F-bombs on the set, even if it’s not in the script. “Then you’re, `God, you can’t say that. We can’t use that one,’” said the actress.
But in the making of “Bad Teacher,” Diaz said it was just the opposite: “You’re like, `More F-bombs, give it to us’ in this film. So to be able to be on set and have your director screaming that at you is a lot of fun. Everybody is just laughing.”
In the film, Diaz plays Elizabeth Halsey, a teacher who just doesn’t give an F. She’s foul-mouthed, ruthless, and wildly inappropriate. She drinks, she gets high, and she can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and walk away from her day job teaching middle school. When she’s dumped by her fiancĂ©, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute (Justin Timberlake) – competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). Elizabeth’s outrageous schemes and their wild consequences will shock her students, her coworkers, and even herself.

“Bad Teacher” is a rare, R-rated studio comedy with a female lead. But with the subsequent success of “Bridesmaids,” another rare raunchy female comedy this season, the industry is likely eyeing the concept as Hollywood’s next hot genre. “It wasn’t a character that was originally written for a man and then made for a woman,” Diaz said. “It was conceived as a woman. And so, it is a lot of fun. I think it is funnier. If it was a guy, it wouldn’t be as funny. Guys don’t need to get (breast) jobs.”
The film reunites Diaz with former beau Justin Timberlake. And while Diaz and Timberlake had worked together post-breakup on the “Shrek” films, “Teacher” marks their first live-action effort together. “We were all like, `This is the right person for the job,’” Diaz explained. “Any worry that we had was like what the media was going to turn it into. Because we all know what they can turn it into.
“So we were very grateful that they didn’t, because there was nothing to make of it, other than two people working together, who just happened to have gone out in another time in our lives. So, it wasn’t a big deal, and we had a great time. And we did the job.”
As for Diaz’s own high-school past? She said she never was sent to detention. “I should have, but somehow, I always got away with it.”
And was she a bad girl in high school? “Not in high school,” Diaz replied with a laugh.
Opening across the Philippines on August 31, “Bad Teacher” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.

Russell Brand‘s voice proved more attractive than his acting as moviegoers

British comedian Russell Brand‘s voice proved more attractive than his acting as moviegoers chose to watch the animated film “Hop” over the remake of the 1981 hit comedy “Arthur.”

“Hop,” which features Brand as the voice of reluctant Easter Bunny E.B., grossed an estimated $21.7 million in its second weekend to push its 10-day total to $68.2 million. While “Hop” is certainly heading towards box-office success, the same cannot be said of Brand’s turn as binge-drinking playboy “Arthur,” which opened with a paltry $12.6 million, and was only a little better than the $12.3 million earned by fellow new release “Hannah,” a film about a teen assassin played by Saoirse Ronan.

Coming in at fourth spot with 11.1 million was “Soul Surfer,” a film based on the life story of surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her left arm in a shark attack. “Soul Surfer” also features the film debut of singer Carrie Underwood. Natalie Portman’s recent Academy Awards victory failed to prevent her latest film from opening poorly as the R-rated “Your Highness” could only muster $9.5 million for sixth spot.

The Top 10 Movies in North America:

1 Hop (PG) $21.7M2

2 Arthur (PG-13) $12.6M

3 Hanna (PG-13) $12.3M

4 Soul Surfer (PG) $11.1M

5 Insidious (PG-13) $9.7M

6 Your Highness (R) $9.5M

7 Source Code (PG-13) $9.0M

8 Limitless (PG-13) $5.7M

9 Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2 (PG) $4.9M

10 The Lincoln Lawyer (R) $4.6M

Brad Pitt stars in “The Tree of Life,” a film featuring some surreal and sci-fi elements.

Heath Ledger was supposed to star in this movie but because he passed away, he was replaced by Brad Pitt.

Also starring in the film are Jessica Chastain (Jolene) and Academy Award winner Sean Penn (I Am Sam, Mystic River). Directed by Academy Award nominee Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line), The Tree of Life is set to open in theaters on May 27, 2011.
Here is the official synopsis of the film as released by Fox Searchlight Pictures at the 2010 American Film Market:
We trace the evolution of an eleven-year-old boy in the Midwest, Jack, one of three brothers. At first all seems marvelous to the child. He sees as his mother does with the eyes of his soul. She represents the way of love and mercy, where the father tries to teach his son the world’s way of putting oneself first. Each parent contends for his allegiance, and Jack must reconcile their claims. The picture darkens as he has his first glimpses of sickness, suffering and death. The world, once a thing of glory, becomes a labyrinth.
From this story is that of adult Jack, a lost soul in a modern world, seeking to discover amid the changing scenes of time that which does not change: the eternal scheme of which we are a part. When he sees all that has gone into our world’s preparation, each thing appears a miracle—precious, incomparable. Jack, with his new understanding, is able to forgive his father and take his first steps on the path of life.
The story ends in hope, acknowledging the beauty and joy in all things, in the everyday and above all in the family—our first school—the only place that most of us learn the truth about the world and ourselves, or discover life’s single most important lesson, of unselfish love.

Mad Meen Coming Soon this 2012

“Mad Men” is coming back for another season, albeit later than usual due to still unresolved issues between series creator and producer Matthew Weiner and cable network AMC.

AMC released a statement on Tuesday, confirming that it has approved production of the fifth season of the Emmy Award-winning cable drama series, which the network hopes to start airing in early 2012. “AMC has officially authorized production of season 5 of Mad Men, triggering our option with Lionsgate. While we are getting a later start than in years past due to ongoing, key non-cast negotiations, Mad Men will be back for a fifth season in early 2012,” the cable network said in the statement.

According to Deadline.com, the main road blocks in the negotiation are the changes to the show that AMC wants incorporated beginning the 5th season. It is believed that AMC wants product placement and more commercials, which essentially means cutting the show’s running time by about two minutes per episode.

Meet Monica Velour stars Dustin Ingram (Sky High) and Sex and The City‘s Kim Cattrall, and directed by Keith Bearden.

Synopsis: In this irreverent comedy, awkward teenager Tobe (Dustin Ingram) sets off on a road trip to meet Monica Velour (Kim Cattrall), his favorite ’80s porn star, at a rare live appearance hundreds of miles away. Instead of the glamorous sexpot portrayed on film, he finds a 49-year-old single mom living in a trailer in rural Indiana, performing at seedy strip clubs to make ends meet. A starry-eyed Tobe, still captivated by his crush, befriends Monica, further complicating her difficult life. Kim Cattrall gives a career-defining performance in this offbeat love story that appeals to the dreamer — and the nerd — in all of us.

Meet Monica Velour will be released to theaters on April 8, 2011.
