Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (born 9 January 1982), popularly known as 'Kate Middleton' is the wife of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. Prince William is second in line to the thrones of the sixteen Common wealth realms, and when he becomes king, she will become queen consort. Middleton grew up in Chapel Row at Bucklebury, a village near Newbury, Berkshire, England. She studied in Scotland at the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William in 2001. They started a romantic relationship that continued until a break-up lasting for several months in 2007. However, they continued to be friends and rekindled their relationship later that year.

Prior to the wedding, Middleton attended many high-profile royal events. Once their relationship became public, Middleton received widespread media attention and there was much speculation that she and Prince William would eventually marry. Their engagement was announced on 16 November 2010, and they married on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey.

New York Fashion experts say Kate Middleton influential, but no trendsetter

Middleton has been compared and contrasted with Diana, whose style, charity and scandalous divorce from Prince Charles made Middleton's excited the world's most famous woman. Middleton is not a trendsetter like her royal spouse's late mother Princess Diana, New York Fashion Week say Britain's Kate Middleton is a style follower. When Middleton married Prince William in April, 2011, hundreds of millions of people around the world watched on television, eager to see the wedding dress designed by Sarah Burton.
While experts debate her fashion status, they say there is no question that the new Duchess of Cambridge and wife of the person second in line to the British throne is influential. While more polished lady-like looks have been shown at New York Fashion Week such as evening wear with sleeves some experts were not expecting to see many styles on the runway animated by Middleton. Almost 100 designers are showing concentrates for spring and summer 2012 to retail buyers, media and celebrities, with dozens more showing at other venues around the city with semi annual still on Thursday. Much like U.S. first lady Michelle Obama, Middleton has been praised for wearing affordable Main Street labels.
